Day 34 Koitiata – Bulls

14 Nov, 32km

It rained early in the night, my tent was dry when I got up so I packed it up quickly.

Overcast, threatening rain, a short shower and gusty northerlies. Very warm.

I set out on the path this morning at 7:00 and ended up at the same place as I started at 8:00. So I tried a new route and a local gave me directions to miss 1km of the beach.

Today’s 32km route was 13km Turakina Beach, 5km forest, 14km road to Bulls.

Wet and muddy shoes going the wrong route was the start and wet feet for the rest of the day.

Turakina Beach

Beach finds.

Good sights.

The sky was clearing at my lunch spot
These markers are always a good sight.

The road walk of 14km was pleasant on tar sealed road with little Sunday traffic. It rained for only 10 minutes and then became the very gusty wind.

I arrived at my second trail angels house at 4:45 in Bulls. A lovely tiny farm down a right of way. Loïc and Frankie were my hosts. I was greeted with a cuppa tea, biscuits and freshly made samosas.

Three different sections, the beach, the brief forest track and then the road broke up the monotony that happens early afternoon. It’s always good rolling into camp with a bit of energy left in the tank.

  1. I didn’t like the sound of ya wet feet and so early in the day. Hope all of those ten little pinkies are behaving themselves. Nice to hear of contrasts in the day.

    1. I enjoy stopping to look at different objects and I enjoy just stopping! 😆 One thing about wet weather is the smell of grass and livestock in the paddocks. It’s a challenge to capture that.
